Illegal immigration from Central America, specifically, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, isn’t something that has been occurring just recently. According to an article from the Migration Policy Institute, also known as MPI, states that immigration from Central America is “an overwhelmingly post-1980s phenomenon”. This means that it has been occurring after the years 1980-1989. It has been occurring for around forty years. In the same MPI article it says that “The Central American immigrant population began its rapid increase in the late 1970s when a series of civil wars broke out in the region.
