Local Context
People who live in Little Village and are undocumented people have different types of life stories that they went through or are going through because they are not citizens. In the article, “From Little Village to Stanford University”, Laura Rodríguez, interview Guillermo Camarillo Jr, a highschool student, who was accepted to Stanford University, and he was very proud of himself for getting accepted and his parents as well. One day Guillermo Camarillo Jr father was arrested “by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers”. According to the article/video, “It was November 5, 2015 when Guillermo Camarillo and his wife, Hilda Posada, were getting ready to leave their home in West Elsdon in the Southside of Chicago, to visit a sick relative when immigration agents arrived, approached Mr. Camarillo and arrested him”. From the situation that is presented above is an example of what most families go through, a parent gets arrested and then they are let go, then again they are arrested and let go again if u have a clean record and no historical background when you're undocumented.
What students can do to become activist-allies is by going to work or participating in a program for undocumented immigrants. In the article, “Immigrant Rights: Striving for Racial Justice, Economic Equality and Human Dignity”, it mentions how undocumented immigrants that were in the program were able to obtain legal status.
