-Social justice is the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society. Social justice means to me to have freedom of speech and to be equal; such as speaking in what you believe in and to treat people of color equal. For example, in our school students are not satisfied with our school lunch, therefore students can make a petition with signatures that will be their freedom of speech. I believe that equality is a social justice issue in this society because not everyone in Chicago are treated the same, for example, Donald Trump; he is saying how all immigrants are referred as Mexicans and that all Mexicans are drug dealers, which is not true, Mexicans are not the only immigrants in the United States, and not all Mexicans are drug dealers. A class example about social justice would be how last year we had a visitor from Honduras, and he explain how he had injustice in his village because people in Honduras were protesting money for schools, less violence, and less drugs, yet they were arrested and also beaten up for speaking in what they believe is right for their country. The definition has changed by people not having opportunities, privileges, or wealth in their society.
-Some obstacles we struggle to achieve social justice would be having people not supporting each other to achieve success. We haven’t achieved social justice because we don’t have support from our own community and some people are not caring about the social justice issues that are being presented in their neighborhoods or they don’t think the problem or situation is a big deal. For example, in little village there's always someone or a group of people getting murdered or hurt, because of gangs and the community don’t mention what happen; either because they are use to it or they believe they can’t do anything because it’s been happening for ever. An historical obstacle will be how Al Capone was the top gangster in Chicago where he started to sell illegal drugs and liquor, he was also accused of killing seven men in a garage which was misleading information. The social justice issue would be how just because a guy is a well known gangbanger is the person killing everyone because that’s not always the case. Obstacles that are happening right now would be how in Chicago, Pilsen, and Gage Park innocent people are getting killed because they are wearing baggy clothes, are walking in the middle of the night, or even just walking in a different neighborhood and wearing gang colors; and all because of gang violence. The social justice issue in gang violence would be how innocent people are dying because of the gangbangers are assuming that innocent people are their rivals from different gangs. An example from class would be how students can’t wear gang colors in school because the school will assume we are presenting and advertising gang colors and that we are in the gang. This is a social justice issue because the school is assuming that we're supporting the gang by using gang colors, which I disagree because people can’t wear certain clothes because then they start to assume were gangbangers which is not true, there just assumptions.
-Some strategies or techniques to achieve social justice would be to make a plan in how to make the problem or situation better by presenting it to the community and making them get involved by telling them the cause and effect in what is going on our neighborhood, how are we getting treated by society, and to give them an opportunity in presenting freedom of speech. Social justice will advance through my lifetime by the law changing in our society and having more people get involved into politics to give their opinions in what they believe is right or wrong in our community. A personal struggle that happen in my life would be when one of my older guy cousins was shot in a car with friends two years ago, they were on a red light in Pilsen by Juarez High school heading home, and a car next to them were gangbangers and they assume that my cousin and his friends were gangbangers, and they shot three bullets, two bullets in my cousin head which one passed through his head to the passenger's skull (which is stuck in his skull still), and one in my cousin's chest. The social justice issue in my personal life would be how people are always assuming things that are not true and it’s not fair to kill people just because you assume someone is a gangbanger is the first instinct to kill is wrong in many ways.
-My role in the struggle would be getting people to join me to make a petition for the injustice of our community of gangbanger and making our community understand that the things around us affects our generations such as the violence, how Mexicans are classified, and how we don’t have equality in our community. I’m not sure of what my Fire Project would be on but I want to people to understand what is going on in our community. My career job is to become an accountant and I will have social justice by making sure that my clients are satisfied with what they need and also making sure everyone is treated equally.
